Famous Masons
Dr. T. J. Barnardo (1845-1905). Philanthropist, and founder and director of homes for destitute children. His work is continued today by the charity Barnardo's.
Burns, Robert (1759-1796). Scottish poet and lyricist. He was regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement and after his death became an important source of inspiration to the founders of liberalism and socialism.
Churchill, Sir Winston L. S. (1874-1965). British politician known chiefly for his leadership during World War II. He served as Prime Minister from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.
Doyle, Sir Arthur Conan (1859-1930). Author noted for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, which are generally regarded as a major innovation in the field of crime fiction.
Kipling, J. Rudyard (1865-1936). English author and poet, best known for his works The Jungle Book, Just So Stories and Kim. He was the first author writing in the English language to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature and remains its youngest ever recipient.
Sir Leonard Hutton (1916-1990). English cricketer who dominated the national and international cricket scene for the decade following the Second World War. He was honoured with the England team captaincy, breaking an age-old tradition that the position could be held only by an amateur.
Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, RN (1868 - 1912). British Royal Naval officer and explorer who led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions, reaching the South Pole on the 18th January 1912.

Meetings
Regular Lodge Meetings
The Royds Lodge meets eight times each year, on the third Thursday of the month from October to May inclusive. The Ceremony of Installation takes place on the third Thursday in May.
The next regular meeting of The Royds Lodge will be held on Thursday 16th October 2008 at 5.45 pm. If you are a Freemason and would like to visit on this occasion, please contact us.
Our meetings are open to the members of the Lodge, their invited Masonic guests and other Masonic visitors.
Every regular meeting is followed by a formal dinner, known as the 'Festive Board', held in the dining room of the Masonic Hall, where members of the Lodge, their guests and visitors enjoy good food, quality wine and stimulating conversation.

Lodge of Instruction
The Royds Lodge of Instruction provides the members of the Lodge with the opportunity to rehearse the roles of the officers, under the guidance of more experienced Lodge members. The Lodge of Instruction is a place for Masonic education, where lectures are presented and guidance offered, with the aim of developing a greater understanding of Freemasonry. Membership of the Royds Lodge of Instruction is open to all members of The Royds Lodge.
The Royds Lodge of Instruction meets seven times each year, on the fourth Monday of the month from September to April inclusive, but excluding December. The Lodge of Instruction opens at 7.30 pm.
The Royds Lodge of Instruction Annual General Meeting is held at 7.00 pm on the fourth Monday in January.
The Royds Lodge of Instruction Festival is held at 7.00 pm on the forth Monday in March.
Rehearsals
Officers of The Royds Lodge are required to attend a rehearsal prior to each regular meeting. The rehearsals allow the officers to perfect their duties, thus ensuring the business of the Lodge is transacted in a professional manner.
Rehearsals are held at 7.30 pm on the Monday preceding the regular Lodge meeting.
